Situation Summary:

Recently one of our business partners, Alcadis IP Solutions, approached us with a business case where we had to find a perfect outdoor solution.

Pim van Gestel, owner of campground De Zeven Linden, offers his guests Wi-Fi for a year now.
He noticed an increasing demand for a wireless connection, but did not want his network to suffer.
The main criteria for the network are a stable connection and a desirable speed.

Problem:

"Customers want to pay for something that works. I myself am absolutely no expert when it comes to wireless connections, so I would not like to see people coming to the reception with questions and complaints. Simply because I cannot answer or offer any help. Now, after offering internet for a year, I can say that I am very excited, and hardly had problems with my connection, in my oppinion it's an excelent network."

Eventually van Gestel wants to grant costumers access to the network through a payment, similar to the way powerconsumption is currently regulated. "Guests get the first 15 minutes for free, after that they can buy more time. We notice that the type of use is incredibly diverse, from quickly checking your incomming mail, to watching TV over the internet."

Solution:

After recomendations from Wifishop, and their installation partner, WiFi IT Factory, Pim van Gestel chose for EnGenius. "They told me they have good experiences with these kind of situations. According to them, the quality that is delivered is very high, and the price relatively low.

The latter is of course also important, Only you must be careful that you do not mess with a lower price, that gives you bad results in your home. The result has proven they were completely right. I am happy with the choises I made."

The desired security is controlled by Pheenet. Their access control server protects your network against unauthorized use. This way, only authenticated users, with login data, can use the network.

Because the campground itslef had no cable, there is a point-to-point connection up to the house of Van Gestel. By usingen an Omni signal on a 2.5GHz band, a signal is available to the guests. The whole park therefore has a good coverage, despite the afforestation at the campsite.

"Obviously we take care of the plants to create a clear view. We were afraid that the enviroment would cause problems for the line of sight. But in general the signal comes through pretty well. It was my fear that this would cause problems, but afterwards it proved to be working well, and my fear was unnecessary." said Mr van Gestel. "I am a more than satisfied customer. The delivered Wi-Fi network fully meets my needs and expectations."
